Ultrastructure of the heart and pericardium of an aplacophoran mollusc (Neomeniomorpha): evidence for ultrafiltration of blood
نویسندگان
چکیده
Transmission electron microscopy of the auricular wall in an undescribed mesopsammic mollusc of the genus Meiomenia (Class Aplacophora, Subclass Neomeniomorpha) has revealed podocytes interposed between the haemocoel and the pericardial coelom. These cells comprise the auricular epicardium and overlie a loose inner myocardium. Podocytes characterize sites of blood ultrafiltration in the Polyplacophora and most conch iferan moll use an classes, and are here described from the Aplacophora for the first time. This evidence for ultrafiltration suggests an excretory role for the neomenioid aplacophoran pericardial coelom and supports coelomic ultrafiltration of blood as a plesiomorphic molluscan trait.

Comparing the Effect of Simple Filtration Hemodialysis and Ultrafiltration Hemodialysis on Arterial Oxygen Saturation and Blood Pressure in Chronic Dialysis
Background and purpose: Hypoxemia and hypotension are important complications of hemodialysis in patients with chronic renal failure that are linked to several factors, including the type of filters used. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of simple filtration hemodialysis and ultrafiltration hemodialysis on blood pressure and blood arterial oxygen level. Materials and methods: In...

The microanatomy and ultrastructure of the excretory system of Pneumoderma sp.(Gymnosomata) and Creseis virgula Rang, 1828 (Thecosomata) has been investigated bymeans of semithin serial sections, reconstructions and transmission electron microscopy. The studies revealed a functional metanephridial system consisting of a heart with a single ventricle and auricle in a pericardium and a si...

متن کاملIsolation of Herpetosiphon giganteus and Ultrastructure Analysis by Electron Microscopy
Herpetosiphon giganteus is a filamentous gliding bacterium. Gliding motility is the movement of the cells over surfaces without the aid of flagella. The mechanism responsible for bacterial gliding motility has not been known and there are only a few data on Herpetosiphon giganteus. The aim of this study was to observe the ultrastructure and negative staining of isolated strains of Herpetosiphon...
متن کاملThe Effect of Zero Balance Ultrafiltration of Priming Blood on Clinical Outcomes of Infants Undergo Cardiopulmonary Bypass
Introduction: Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Bypass (CPB) circuit invariably requires priming with Packed Red Blood Cells (PRBCs). Metabolic composition of stored PRBCs is unphysiological. Commencement of PRBC primed CPB leads to rapid transfusion of massive metabolic load. This predisposes pediatric patients to the risk of complications such as electrolyte disturbances, citrate toxicity, acidosis a...
